Do you have a broken zipper on a jacket, bag, shoe, piece of gear or any other item? Folks from Repair PDX and Zipper Rescue are teaming up to offer information, tips and tricks to help you repair your own zippers! During this session, Clay from Zipper Rescue will show the anatomy of a zipper, why they break, and how to approach fixing them. He will also share some technical skills and resources for doing your own repair. The second half of the session will be open for Q&A to address any specific repair needs you might have. Thanks to a generous grant from Metro for repair materials and supplies, Repair PDX and Zipper Rescue will be able to offer all attendees zipper repair kits for only $5 (that's roughly 65% off retail price). Attendees will receive a discount code that can be used to purchase a kit to repair your zipper.
The mission of Repair PDX is to spread repair culture. For the past 7 years, Lauren Gross has been organizing monthly repair events all around the Portland area where volunteers fix people's broken household items for free. Currently, Lauren is working on ways to promote repair education and support folks repairing their own items at home. If you have other items that need repair, or would like to help host workshops on repair related topics, please email her at repairpdx@gmail.com.
Zipper Rescue’s mission is to provide simple and practical solutions for do-it-yourself zipper repair. In 1993 Clay McCabe’s father Mike McCabe founded Zipper Rescue, and created the original Zipper Rescue Kit. Clay grew up thinking DIY zipper repair was a normal thing, turns out it is still an astonishingly rare skill. He plans to help it become common knowledge, by providing high quality replacement parts at an affordable price, and excellent instructions. If you need help, or would like to support in any way, please email info@zipperrescue.com
